What are supercapacitors & EDLC?

Supercapacitors, also known as ultracapacitors and electric double layer capacitors (EDLC), are capacitors with capacitance values greater than any other capacitor type available today. Supercapacitors are breakthrough energy storage and delivery devices that offer millions of times more capacitance than traditional capacitors.

What are electric double layer capacitors?

Electric double layer capacitors, namely super-capacitors, are used mainly to assist other power supplies in coping with surge power requirements particularly in electric/hybrid vehicles. The Shanghai municipality tested electric buses powered by supercapacitors (capabuses).

What are electric double-layer capacitors (EDLCs)?

In supercapacitors, the electrical double layer formed next to a large-area electrode and an electrolyte is effectively used, and hence these devices are technically called electric double-layer capacitors (EDLCs). What is the maximum capacitance a supercapacitor can provide?
